Liturgical Altar Ministry
The Liturgical Altar Ministry (LSO) is the collective name for those whose service helps people participate in the liturgy with dignity and beauty. Everyone has different talents and aptitudes, so service to the Church can take various forms.
Church documents list among those belonging to the liturgical ministry altar servers and readers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, those who bring up the gifts and take up the collection, commentators, members of the choir and schola together with the organist, as well as the sacristan.
One of the most important groups within the Liturgical Altar Ministry in our parish is the altar servers and readers who serve at the altar. Liturgical formation takes place in three stages:
- Candidate
- Altar server
- Reader
Candidates are the youngest group of boys wishing to begin liturgical service. Altar servers form the middle age group, and their service is the most varied. To become an altar server, one must master basic liturgical knowledge and the principles of serving at the altar.
Altar servers who reach the appropriate age and demonstrate suitable aptitudes, especially clear diction, may be promoted to readers. Their task is to proclaim the Word of God during Holy Mass.
Formation includes regular meetings, trips, excursions, community-building events and sports competitions that help build fellowship.
Parish LSO membership as of January 1, 2026
- 24 altar servers
- 36 readers
- 13 readers who have completed secondary school
- 2 parish masters of ceremonies
- 1 extraordinary minister of Holy Communion
